Building Maintenance – 20 weeks (720 hours)
The Building Maintenance program is divided into 3 phases: Cleaning, Maintenance, & Floor Care.
All three are valuable skill sets to have and are equally important when working as a member of building maintenance team.
In part one, cleaning, Building Maintenance students will go through the custodial services program, a separate stand alone program offered at Beyond Limitations Career School. While in the cleaning program, students will learn the technical skills and terminology to successfully clean a building. Topics such as green cleaning, bio hazard disposal, and various cleaning process will be covered at length. While in the Cleaning phase, students will rotate from three locations, Beyond Limits Career School’s Training Center (3829 Se 74th Ave, Portland, OR 97206), Portland Internal Airport (PDX), and the National Institute of Natural Medicine (NCNM). Students will spend approximately 2 -3 weeks at each location honing their cleaning knowledge and skills.
In the Maintenance Phase of training, students will have an overview of building maintenance and tour many of the apartment complexes they soon will be working on throughout the Portland Metro area. Students will spend 8 weeks focusing their learning in 5 areas of maintenance: Wall Construction, Wall Repair, Painting, Basic Plumbing, electrical and Appliance Repair. Training will occur @ Beyond Limits Career School’s Training Center (3829 Se 74th Ave, Portland, OR 97206) with frequent real world maintenance/repair opportunities in housing units owned by Portland Habilitation Center Northwest.
In the third and final phase of the Building Maintenance program, Students will spend 4 weeks learning the technical skills needed for accurate floor care. The curriculum will focus on cleaning and restoring both hard floors and carpeted areas. Training will occur @ Beyond Limits Career School’s Training Center (3829 Se 74th Ave, Portland, OR 97206) with frequent on-site (Portland Metro area) learning and practice opportunities.
Clerical & Administrative Services
All students complete an initial assessment on Microsoft Office 2007 applications. The results of this assessment are then used to create the individualized learning plan. Learning is self- paced and web - based. This means you can access course material from your home, a café, the library, or any place a computer can connect to the internet. Students will also receive help as needed from a certified Microsoft professional BLCS instructor. Once students have completed their designed learning path, they will complete a final assessment to formally evaluate their level of understanding. This process of assessment and individualized learning is repeated until the student demonstrates the appropriate level of proficiency.
Custodial Services – 8 weeks (240 hours)
The Basic Custodial Training Course prepares individuals with marketable job skills in the field of Building Maintenance Services. The course is a comprehensive vocational curriculum that uses modern tools and “green” processes. Basic Custodial Training (BCT) course content is presented both in standard classroom- lecture-type setting and self-paced practical work experience format with hands-on training. Trainees will apply their skills to multiple cleaning site locations providing a comprehensive and diverse learning experience.

Custodial Training Manual (in 3 parts)
Detail Drafting & Fabrication – SolidWorks – 16 weeks (600 hours)
This course will prepare you with the skills necessary to successfully use Solidworks - the leading 3-D modeling design software in the world. You will receive quality instruction from experienced engineers on design and drafting techniques. You will also have the opportunity to use the machine shop and build what you have designed. The program will give you a well rounded design and drafting skill set, in addition to real machine shop production experience.
Landscape Maintenance – 16 weeks (600 hours)
The program is a comprehensive 16 week course that prepares individuals to be successful landscape technicians. There is lot more to this career then just mowing lawns. The course begins with an overview of the profession, and then focuses to specific tools of the trade – edgers, mowers, trimmers, tillers, etc. A good portion of the class is spent on tree/flower/shrub planting, weed identification, and preventative maintenance. Most instructional time is spent on the job, working on PHCNW landscape contracts. Students need to prepare to get their hands dirty and work outside in all weather conditions.
