| Maintaining Over
400 Acres of Property
The PHCNW Landscape & Nursery Division maintains over 400 acres of property
in Washington and Oregon including the historic Vancouver Barracks, various
parks, apartment complexes and the grounds of commercial buildings. Our
landscape crews provide full-services from new plantings to continuous
maintenance of lawns and outdoor-planted areas.
Wildlife Preservation
PHCNW is located between the Columbia River and the Columbia Slough. In
1996, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department began working with PHCNW to
create a wildlife refuge and wetlands pond. Our property now serves as
a habitat to beaver, osprey, blue heron cranes, wood ducks, and other
fowl and fauna.
Care for the Environment
In cooperation with the City of Portland, PHCNW pledged to leave portions
of its property native. PHCNW is surrounded by bio-swales that act as a
living filter for rain runoff that then empties into the wildlife pond.
Much of the PHCNW landscape remains in its natural state and is enhanced
only by native vegetation.
Environmental Awareness Programs
The PHCNW Nursery hosts Parkrose High School environmental programs. Students
test the water in our on-site wetlands pond and the bio-swales that surround
our facilities, as well as the adjacent Columbia Slough. Students learn
research, science and math in a practical setting. Students share discovered
information with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, The City
of Portland, Metro and the Multnomah County Drainage Board.
