Janitorial Services: Meet Lasheba Camel

As a single mom with two kids, Lasheba Camel said her job is a source of pride.

“It means a lot to me to have a job,” Lasheba said. “It gets me up, it gives me energy, and I need the energy.  When I get home, sometimes I am too pooped to poop.”

She said she does her best to show her kids what it means to work hard and earn a living.

“As a mom, I am always staying on my ps and qs,” she said. “You can’t ever be lazy. You always have to be a role model in regards to whatever you do. You have to let them know about morals and respect. If you don’t show them, then they can go down the wrong path.”

Lasheba said the hardest part about being a mom is dealing with her learning disability.

“I have a learning disability to the point where I can sometimes get tunnel vision,” she said.  “It depends on how busy I am though.”

She loves working in the counsel chambers. She said everyday she learns something different at work.
“Just because I am a janitor doesn’t mean I can’t learn anything else,” she said. “I learn so much just from people networking with me.”

She said the person who trained her took pride in cleaning the building, from top to bottom. She maintains that attitude in her work and asks questions when she doesn’t understand something.

“I think the dumbest question is the question that is not asked,” Lasheba said. “In order for you to grow, it is important you ask questions.”

She said that when she comes to work, “it’s like home a way from home.”

As a mom of a 15 year-old-boy and one year-old girl, she likes spending as much time as she can with her kids. She likes taking them to museums, watching her son play sports and going to football games.

“I have been an eagles fan for three years, but my son goes with whatever team goes to the championship,” she said. “One day I want to go take my son to a real live foot ball game. Football gets my heart pounding.”
